Football Crowd Control Plan

Due to the large crowds at our home football games, we have developed a crowd control plan for Byron High School.  This plan was created to provide a safe environment for our students, and for those who want to watch and enjoy the game.  We have experienced many problems in years past at our home football games with students who have very little interest in the game itself, spending their time running around and chasing each other amongst the crowd.  Many of the younger students appear to be without parental supervision.  The noise level and distraction caused by this activity has prevented others from watching and enjoying the game, and has led to numerous complaints.  For these reasons, we will be enforcing the following guidelines:

  • Byron students are not allowed on the visitor’s side of the field.
  • Students will not be allowed to wander through the crowd, or gather in groups, while the games are in progress.  Students attending the game will be required to sit in the stands directly in front of the concession stand, or sit with their parents.
  • Students who are wandering during the game will be escorted to these bleachers or to their parents.  If they are caught a second time, they will be escorted to a gate and asked to leave.
  • If a student leaves the fenced area surrounding the football field, they will not be allowed to return.

Unfortunately, we do not have enough space around our field to provide an area where the younger students can congregate, socialize, and play.  For the safety and consideration of all patrons, we will do our best to provide an environment where the excitement and spirit of a high school football game can be enjoyed by all.

Thanks you for your understanding and cooperation.

Sincerely,

Jeff Flater

Activities Director

Byron High School

New Physical Form
From The Activities Office

Effective January 1, 2010, Public Act 096-0128 became law which requires that the pre-participation physical form shall include a question asking whether a student has a family history of cancer and may require a testicular examination as part of a physical required for a male student's participation in interscholastic activities. The pre-participation physical form or card that has been used for many years does not include the question about a family history of cancer and therefore, that form is now obsolete and should no longer be used. Also, there is a section on the form where the students and parents give consent to random testing for steroids and performance-enhancing substances. This pertains only to high school students and is required by the IHSA for participation.

You may access the new physical form by clicking the link below or navigating to the forms page of this website.

Student Insurance Update
From The Activities Office
Students who participate in dance team; cheerleading and competitive sports must be covered by a Medical Accident Insurance plan.  The student may be included on a parent/guardian plan, or you may purchase coverage through the school.  Enrollment forms for Student Accident Insurance are available through the Human Resource office located in the District Office.  Please see the District Office for a form.  Proof of insurance coverage will be required before any student is allowed to participate in any extra-curricular activities.

Student Accident Optional Coverage information
Students that are enrolled in the district are covered under the district's insurance policy while at school and while participating in school sponsored and supervised events.  For those students in need of additional insurance, Standard or Deluxe Additional 24-hour coverage can be purchased through the Student Accident Insurance Brochure.  Please see the District Office for a brochure with details of coverage.

It is very important to communicate in advance and directly with the coach regarding any vacation plans.

Q: If my son/daughter is ill and at home during the day can he/she come to school just for practice or competition?
A: If a student is too ill to come to school, then it is not appropriate for him/her to be at practice or competition unless they are in school by the 3rd period and stay for the remainder of the school day.

Q: If my son/daughter is injured and can't participate, are they expected to be at practice/contests?
A: Yes. They are a part of the team. There is always something to be learned from attending and though injured, the student has a role and responsibility with the team.

Q: Whom do I contact if I have any questions?
A:

General questions regarding activities should be directed to Mr. Flater our Activities Director. For sport specific information please contact the head coach.
